Nida Javaid
Wellcome Sanger Institute, UK, United Kingdom
- This delegate is presenting an abstract at this event.

Dr. Javaid is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, specialising in microbial genomics within the Parasites and Microbes Programme. Her research focuses on the pan-genome analysis of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) isolates, utilising a comprehensive dataset of ~24,000 genomes collected between 1953 and 2023 as part of the JUNO study. This work aims to elucidate the genetic diversity of GBS lineages and identify capsule-independent vaccine targets with broad coverage and immunological conservation.
Dr. Javaid did her PhD at the Department of Life Sciences, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan where her research focused on impact of vaccination on pneumococcal population structure and resistance trends in South Asia and Africa. Beyond her research, Dr. Javaid actively contributes to global capacity building by participating in bioinformatics training workshops, empowering researchers from low-resource settings to independently analyse genomic datasets.
