Dale Tilbrook
Maali Mia Pty Ltd, WA, Australia
I am a Wardandi Bibbulmun woman from the Busselton, Margaret River area of WA.
My journey in Aboriginal Cultural Tourism started in 1996 and I am very grateful to my elders and mentors who encouraged me, taught me, took me out on country and helped me fill in the gaps. They unleashed a powerful quest for knowledge, particularly for our bushfood. I am still excited by the bounty of the bush supermarket and am continually learning.
A huge part of my continuous learning comes from my involvement with the Kids Research Institute Australia. I am an elder/researcher on many projects at the Kids Institute, including the Vitamin D project.
I have also been working with Masters and PhD students at Curtin University, on edible wattle seed and other bushfoods.
My brother and I grow bushfood plants for our bushtucker experiences and harvest, dry and mill various edible leaves for use as herbs and teas. We own and operate Maalinup Aboriginal Experiences and Dale Tilbrook Experiences.
Our experiences include Bushtucker, Aboriginal Art and Local History and Culture.
I am a founding member, past board member and currently the female Patron of WAITOC (Western Australian Tourism Operators Council).
